FAQs
Who is The Prenatal for?
Formulated to support a healthy pregnancy, The Prenatal also maintains and supports:
- Healthy foetal development
- Healthy foetal Central Nervous System and brain development
- Overall maternal health
- Placenta health and growth
When Should I Start Taking a Prenatal Vitamin?
Health professionals recommend taking a prenatal vitamin 3+ months before trying to conceive to support egg health and maturation, to boost maternal folate levels and to support overall maternal health.
Why we chose Folinic acid.
‘Bioactive’ or ‘activated’ folate is a readily absorbable form of the nutrient – the closest synthetic version of Folate to what’s naturally found in food. Because it’s so familiar to our bodies, we can metabolise it fast, raising maternal folate levels quickly.
Why is Choline the new ‘it’ fertility nutrient?
There’s a growing body of scientific literature to suggest Choline plays an important role in healthy fetal development and healthy fetal Central Nervous System and brain development. We’re dubbing it an emerging fertility nutrient, and see it as an essential ingredient in prenatal vitamins.
Can a prenatal substitute an adequate diet?
The Prenatal keeps your nutritional stores topped up, so when a baby does appear on the ultrasound, there's more of you to go around.. But vitamins and minerals can only be of assistance if dietary intake is inadequate, so think of The Prenatal as an insurance policy for any gaps in your diet.
Why is my urine neon yellow?
Noticed your urine’s sporting a new shade of yellow a few hours after taking The Prenatal? Relax in the knowledge this is totally normal, the body is very clever at maintaining what’s required and excreting anything that can’t be stored- like water soluble vitamins. The neon colour actually comes from one specific B vitamin- riboflavin (B2) which contains flavins, naturally occurring yellow pigments.
Can’t find what you’re looking for? It’s all for good reason
A note on DHA & EPA
If you’re taking these Omegas in a multivitamin, it’s most likely not the highest quality
form. If your healthcare practitioner recommends them, nutritional biochemistry suggests
these are best taken separately, in their pure, fatty form.
A note on Calcium
As much as calcium can be beneficial, it can also negatively interact with other ingredients
in a multivitamin. So we chose to exclude it and ensure we provide vitamin D in the optimal
range. That way, vitamin D can help you absorb the calcium you need from calcium-rich foods
instead.
A note on Iron
Current clinical research recommends we don't routinely supplement iron, and instead take
separate iron capsules or tablets if iron deficiency or iron deficiency anaemia is
clinically diagnosed. So we’re following suit, as the token amounts generally found in
multivitamins just won’t cut it if you find you need additional iron.
